Tell me more about your qualifications and experience

I completed by Undergraduate Degree (BSc Hons) at Goldsmiths College, University of London. I then spent three years working as an Assistant Psychologist for the NHS, gaining post-graduate experience in neuropsychology, and within mental health teams. I then completed my Professional Doctorate (DClin Psy) at the University of East London. My Doctoral Thesis was entitled “Social cognition in temporal lobe epilepsy”. It was a total of ten years from beginning my Undergraduate Degree, to finishing my Professional Doctorate.

Since that time I have worked as a qualified Clinical Psychologist supporting clients in community neurorehabilitation settings, mental health teams, and clinical health psychology services.

I have supervised senior clinical psychologists as well as psychologists who are in training roles. I have taken part in the annual selection process for recruiting Trainee Clinical Psychologists, for the University of Hertfordshire, the University of East London and the University of Essex

I have provided individual support to NHS clinical staff who have found working through the Covid-19 pandemic psychologically challenging. I co-wrote scripts for co-presenting in a filming project, providing information and advice for people who have been discharged from hospital after admission for Covid-19, or who have struggled psychologically during the pandemic for various reasons. This filming project has formed a website for the general public: www.covidwellbeingsupport.com.

How long will I have to wait to be seen?

This depends on whether all my available appointment times are booked. During a free Initial Enquiry Call, I can let you know whether I have spaces available. If I do, I should be able to see you within a week (during school term times).

Can I use health insurance to pay for sessions?

At the present time, I am only able to see clients who can self-fund sessions – I am not able to accept clients who are funded by health insurance policies.

What are sessions like?

At the assessment, I’ll ask you a lot of questions about the problem, its context and its background. I’ll also ask about yourself in general and your life. I’ll ask about your health too. I’ll reach a conclusion about what plan I would recommend for you.

At therapy sessions, we will explore areas in more detail. As well as listening, very keenly, and making sure you feel well understood, we will see what we learn together by discussing areas in detail, and also make a plan for what you can do between each session to put learning into practise.

What is video therapy like and how does it work?

You will be sent a link, to click on at the booked appointment time. This will open up the video call on your device. It doesn’t matter if you use a phone, tablet or laptop. It doesn’t matter where you are, as long as you can use a private space to speak. This means I can work with any English-speaking client worldwide, apart from USA and Canada, where licensing for Clinical Psychologists are different.

What if the connection fails or there are network problems?

Obviously, technical problems of this kind can’t be predicted, nor are they within my control. We will try to persist with the video call, through these problems. However, if around 10 minutes of the session becomes affected, or it becomes frustrating to either party, we will revert to a phone call for the remainder of the session, if you are based in the UK. If you are outside the UK the session may need to be rescheduled altogether. Session time cannot be extended in this event and will remain as 50 minutes.

How many sessions will I have and how often?

This can vary significantly. Depending on what it is you want to work on, a plan could be agreed for as little as three therapy sessions. It is also common for clients to require more than 20 sessions to achieve their goals however. I will be totally open with you about my rationale for any plan I recommend to you and you can consider whether to go ahead, and this may include an estimate of the approximate duration of therapy, where it is clearly indicated. Sessions are typically weekly. Fortnightly sessions may also be considered if your therapy needs can be adequately met in this way.

Can I contact you in between sessions?

Contact with clients is by booked appointments only. This is so that I can fulfil my commitments to all clients who book to see me, without clinics becoming delayed.  If you need more frequent contact than the planned sessions, or you have other needs, this may suggest I am not the right service for you, and you should contact your Doctor for more urgent help. Please note I am not a mental health service, nor can I provide crisis support in this regard.

Why have you asked for my Doctor/GP's details?

This is an issue of safety. Should a situation of arise in which I become worried about your safety or that of others, I would have a duty of care to share information accordingly and this would include your Doctor. I cannot work with you if you are unable to provide these details. I do not write to GPs or other third party about your therapy unless a safety issue arises.

I am a healthcare professional – can I refer a client to you?

Yes, please complete a referral form and add your details to it where indicated.

Is it confidential and is my personal information secure?

Notwithstanding safety issues, details shared within sessions remain confidential, with brief session records stored electronically and in line with GDPR requirements. Client names would be visible to those supporting the service with financial reporting, such as an accountant, however no clinical information would be visible in this context. Further, it is a professional requirement for the psychologist to engage in regular clinical supervision and as such, clinical information may sometimes be shared in order to seek advice from a peer or more senior supervisor in the interest of following best practice. However, such discussions are anonymised and the supervisor would not have access to client-identifying details.

What if I need to change or cancel my appointment?

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible via email to li**@**********an.com (or a message via DrLisaMorgan.com). 24 hours notice is required for cancellation. No refund will be given for non-attended appointments or those cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, as the psychologist incurs the same costs as if the appointment had taken place and is unable to offer the slot to another client at that late stage.

How do I pay for appointments?

Payment is made at the time of booking an appointment, securely, by Stripe.
